Short summer trips: Himachal
Himachal's strength is short, easy treks in spring, summer and autumn, many of them reachable from Dharamshala, Mandi or Kullu. Six of its 12 atlas treks are graded easy or easy–moderate:
- Triund: 2,875 m, 2 days, easy

These stay below 3,000 m, a gentle introduction to the mountains without the effects of high altitude.

Your first high pass
Ready to go above 4,000 m? Both states have strong options in the summer and autumn windows:
- Himachal: Hampta Pass (4,200 m, 5 days, moderate, best Jun–Oct) crosses from green Kullu into stark Lahaul, a dramatic change in a single day. Bhrigu Lake (4,300 m, 4 days, graded easy) is a shorter high-altitude option.
