The home of the serpent god
Nag Mandir
The small Nag Mandir temple stands at the centre of the campsite clearing. In deep snow, camp moves 2 km down to Khatian.
Snow peaks to the north
From the top: Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch and Black Peak to the north, and Nanda Devi far to the east.
When to go
A winter weekend
December to March brings snow on the summit ridge.

Getting to Pantwari
Pantwari is about 90 km from Dehradun, past Mussoorie and Kempty Falls.

Offloading
A porter or mule for your bag costs ₹918 with Bikat, ₹800 with Trekkaro. Himalaya Shelter charges ₹400 a day for a bag up to 12 kg. Bikat Adventures
Local jeeps
Bolero jeeps run regularly between Dehradun and Pantwari. They are crowded but the cheapest way up. Himalayan Dream Treks
Shared cab cost
Bikat's cab leaves the Dehradun bus stand at 7 a.m. A Sumo for 5–6 people costs ₹4,000 each way. A Tempo for 11–12 costs ₹6,000. Bikat Adventures
