Stories and nature

A ridge among legends

Swargarohini

Stairway to heaven

The Pandavas are said to have climbed Swargarohini toward heaven; only Yudhishthira made it. The massif is the source of the Tons.

Bandarpunch

Hanuman's tail

Bandarpunch means monkey's tail: Hanuman is said to have put out his burning tail on its summit after the battle in Lanka.

The name

Why Phulara

Himalaya Shelter links the name to flowers: in summer the Pushtara meadows bloom, and monals are often seen on the way down.

When to go

Spring and autumn

The narrow ridge is risky in bad weather, and closed in winter.

May–June

Days 10–20 °C lower down; below freezing higher up at night.

Monsoon

Not recommended.

Sep–Oct

Clear views of Swargarohini.

Winter

Snow from late November; the trek closes.
