Stories and nature
From the Yamuna to the Sutlej
The moon's bath
Some say Shiva's crescent moon bathed at Chandranahan, and that the Rohru valley's deity comes to dip in it every five years.
Birch-bark paper
Between Dayara and Litham the trail passes forests of bhoj, whose bark was used as paper in ancient times.

Getting to Janglik
The road is bad after Chirgaon. You finish on the Kinnaur side.

- Janglik
By public transport: bus to Rohru, jeeps to Chirgaon and Tangnu, then an hour's walk. The nearest ATM is at Rohru. Exit: Barua, about 250 km from Shimla.
Cost
Bikat Adventures charges ₹16,500 + 5% GST, Janglik to Barua. Treks and Trails charges ₹17,499.
Permits
Forest and camping permits are arranged by operators. Bring photo ID.
Pass day
The snow descent is steep and often roped. Go with an experienced team.
Weather
Snowstorms have killed trekkers near Burua Kanda. Check forecasts and turn back if it closes in.
Good to know
The small things
Cash, signal, water, permits and help on the way. Checked October 2026; confirm with your operator.
Cash only
No ATM at Janglik, on the trail or at Barua. Cards don't work on the trail. Carry small notes. Trekkaro
Phone signal
Airtel works well up to Janglik; Vodafone and BSNL are patchy there. On the trek, Airtel only at a hut 2 km before Dayara and a big boulder at Litham. Then nothing until Barua. Bikat Adventures
Charging
Janglik is the only charging point, and its power comes and goes. Charge everything there. Trekkaro
Food and plates
Three vegetarian meals a day, with eggs on some days. Bikat gives no plates or spoons: bring your own plate, spoon, mug and lunch box. Bikat Adventures
Tents and toilets
Twin-sharing tents on all trek days. Toilets are dry pits in a toilet tent. Bring your own toilet paper. Bikat Adventures
Temperatures
Lower down: days 15–20 °C, nights 5–10 °C. Higher up: days 10–15 °C, nights −5 to 5 °C. Bikat Adventures
Nearest hospital
Rohru, about 40 km from Janglik. Himalaya Shelter
Rescue
A sick trekker is carried down to the roadhead and driven to hospital. The trekker pays for the rescue, so take insurance. Bikat Adventures
Offloading
Bikat charges ₹4,800 to carry your bag for the trek. Bikat Adventures
Late finish
The drive back from Barua reaches Shimla around 10 p.m. or later. Book your onward trip for the next day. Trekkaro
