The trek is said to follow the journey of the Pandavas from the Mahabharata through these hills.

When to go
Snow and rhododendrons
Bikat says the trek works any time of year, but March and April are best: snow on the trail and rhododendrons in bloom.
Mar–Apr
Snow on the upper trail and rhododendrons in flower.
Winter
Snowfall can block the upper trail.
