Stories and nature

The source of the Beas

The lake

Where Vyas bathed

Beas Kund is said to be where the sage Vyas bathed during his meditation. Local belief holds that bathing here cures skin ailments.

The river

Vipāś, the unfettered

Legend says Veda Vyasa created the Beas from this lake. The Rigveda calls the river Vipāś, the unfettered.

The view

Indra's seat

Indrasan, seen from the trail, is believed to be where Lord Indra stays when he comes to earth: Indra's aasana, his seat.

When to go

A summer trek

The Himachal trekking portal lists the trek as open from May to October.

Mid-May–June

Snow lingers on the upper trail early in the season.

Monsoon

Rain raises the river crossings. Take extra care in July and August.

Sep–Oct

Clear days before the trek closes at the end of October.

Nov–Apr

Bikat does not recommend it: heavy snow and nights down to −10 °C.

Who runs it

Choose an operator

We found 6 operators with a Beas Kund page in October 2026, from ₹4,500 to ₹15,500. Lengths run from 2 to 4 days. Trek The Himalayas blocks automated visits, so its price is from a search snippet.

Prices are base prices from each operator's own page (October 2026); most add 5% GST. Ratings are what each operator shows, not an independent audit. Names marked † show last season's price or one seen only in a search snippet.
